My name is Tara Ashley and I am 19 years old. My family was born and raised in Baltimore,MD. My father moved us all over the place until I was about 6 and we settled in South Carolina for my dad's job. My childhood was cut short when my dad and mom got a divorce when I was about 12. I rebeled and saw and did alot of things that I sometimes regret, but I thank God for the experience because I would have never been the person that I am today. I have always had an interest in reading. My "When I grow up job" was to be a scientist. I first got into writing when my mother's boyfriend who was an awesome writer started teaching me writing techniques. I was about 13 or 14 at the time. It was that night that i wrote my first true poem. From then on my Grandmother in Maryland told us about a poetry contest for all ages. I entered and won. They published my poem in a book for winners called "Dreaming in Metaphors". I also have a copyright on 3 of my poems. My middle school included me in the yearbook as a poet lauret (is that how you spell it). My 8th grade year I inteviewed for a creative writing workshop at the Fine Arts Center. I got in and was one of the first freshman high school students allowed in. Thats when I went wild!!! You don't even want to know what I did in those 4 years of high school, but they truly opened my eyes. I just graduated and am going to College in the fall of 2003...
