I am a grandmother of 2, A 17 year old, 'just graduating from high school and I'm ready to take on the world', granddaughter and a just turned four, 'hey world, look at me', grandson. They are my two joys and my inspiration for doing the many things I like to do.
Because my granddaughter in Massachusetts is older (she can fly down on her own)I moved from New England a year or so ago to the state of Maryland so I could now watch my grandson grow up. For the previous 12 years before moving I worked in the long term nursing home environment, mostly as an Activities Coordinator, though, I decided at this time, mainly because of some health problems, to retire at an earlier age than planned. I have worked at different jobs since the age of twelve and learned a strong work ethic from my upbringing on a dairy farm, where one had chores almost as soon as one learned to walk. This is also where I learned to love and respect the natural elements.
I have some formal college education and lots of informal education (including several courses about writing and other things I took a fancy to learn.) I enjoy reading, everything from Agatha Christie, Harry Potter, biographies, science fiction (Isaac Asimov and Anne Macaffery are favorites)to Jane Austen, Thomas Hardy, the Greek classics and of course poetry. As a matter of fact, I can't think of genre I don't or won't read at least once.
I appreciate too many things to list completely and have often thought that I should dislike more things than I do. Some of my 'hobbies' include: decorative sewing (not clothes), sketching, doll-making, woodcrafting, painting, home design/decor, gardening, indoor and outdoor; reading, writing, music such as: classical, blues, jazz, 50's & 60's and 70's oldies, country and classic hard rock among many other kinds. I hate cooking, like cleaning, love elderly people and little kids, and except for the cooking, I have earned a living involving each of the above at one time or the other.
I love the quiet of the country, nature and all her mysteries, I like quirkyness when least expected, dry humor and irony. I also like satire if coherant and not so esoteric that only the writer's closest friends know what the devil he's talking about. I guess that also applies to poetry and prose as well.
