I'm a rancher and cowboy poet in Wyoming. I raise horses, cattle, goats and a daughter.
I've been writing since grade school, and a couple of things hold true for me:
1. Cowboy poetry is best shared personally by the author. In other words, it's always better to hear it told, in person, around a fire.
2. The best of my writings have been about real experiences. You'll pretty much know that when you see my stuff written, I was there when it happened.
I'm going to add a couple more things here. All of the characters in these stories are real. They didn't want their names changed. They're rather flattered that I call them out when I write.
It's best to look at the dates that I put at the bottom of each one of these, some of them are pretty old. My notebook is wearing out, and I need a place to put these before they get lost like the ones that I wrote in high school. I'm digging up old notebooks, little by little, but some of the things that I wrote many years ago are gone.
I know that some of it is a tough read. I think and talk like a cowhand. That's what I am. Eventually, I'll get the Cowhand's Dictionary on here. Even if you really don't want to understand my writings, it's going to be good for posterity.
