Tough to get old
by Walter Jones (Age: 63)
copyright 07-28-2003

Age Rating: 10 to 127

I stood in the corner
and what did I see
a lonely old man
looking back at me

wishing and fishing all about the same
sometimes your catch'n sometimes it rains

The sorrow and age
written in his eyes
with worry and hope
he cries

wishing and fishing all about the same
sometimes your catch'n sometimes it rains

today is my birthday
but nobody cares
I lost them to booze
and a long flight of stairs

wishing and fishing all about the same
sometimes your catch'n sometimes it rains

take what you want and
give what you can
don't try to call me
a troubled old man

wishing and fishing all about the same
sometimes your catch'n sometimes it rains

I worked the valley
I played in the field
I listen as the young'ns squealed

wishing and fishing all about the same
sometimes your catch'n sometimes it rains

Now don't you go ask'n me
which way is right
cause I'll point to sky
the stars of the night

wishing and fishing all about the same
sometimes your catch'n sometimes it rains

With the last words I will say
lifes worth liv'n
yet you die
a little each day

wishing and fishing all about the same
sometimes your catch'n sometimes it rains

It is great, because being old is not bad and we all have to go sometime. I admire your expressions in your poem.

Well with age the body gets older, but doesn't the most basic part of us remain the same? Maybe I will understand better in 30 years or so...lol

Nice write,
Chris

Excellent poem Walt, Just remember with age comes wisdom with wisdom comes acceptance. Hmm a very wise man has taught me that. To bad that man sometimes fails to listen to his own excellent advice.

Loved this one Walter. Great truths and messages....I know each day we die a little, but each day we gotta live alot, 'cause they are numbered. God bless. Keep fishing and stroking and writing these fine words.

Warm Regards,
Lyle

Unusual style with a catchy little line. Hits home for a man my age!

You always see the main, Walt. Yes, sometimes it is rain. True, each of us dies a little each day...
I love your poem. - Irina.
