Big Rigs and Motor Cars
by Gregory Christiano (Age: 61)
copyright 06-05-2003

Age Rating: 10 to 127

Driving is scary!
Big trucks are hairy!
Road rage is weary,
So be very wary.

They tailgate, and cut us off,
We are careful of course,
But congestion is a force
Which strangles our recourse.

Bad drivers harass us,
They honk and rush passed us.
Always in a hurry,
From what do they scurry?

Needless to say,
There will come a day
When menacing wheels,
Hot on our heels

Will come into view
And crack up a few
Good drivers, it's sad
And swerving, Egad!

But what can we do?
Stay alert and drive through
These lawless highways
And with luck in some way

Stay alive one more day!
_______________________________________________________

I've been driving for almost forty years! Careful drivers are always at risk these days. There seems to be more semi-tractor trailers, the eighteen wheelers and the ones with the double-rigs, more agressive SUV drivers, and more drunk drivers than ever before menacing our roads. The disturbing facts are very plain to see. These reckless, agressive, speedy drivers must be forced from the road with strict traffic laws and harsher sentences. I lost a relative to a drink driver many years ago.

Our highways are lawless. These erratic and crazed drivers are criminals and predators and we must hold them and our judicial system accountable. Our roads are not safe. Period. We must change the laws and make them safe.

I agree Gregory, the big rigs often intimidate to the point of being life threatening. This poem portrays the problem well. We must all respect one another. I have been deliberately forced off the road by a flat bed trailer full of rebar and had another guy in big black Peterbilt deliberately swerve, threatening to hit my Blazer and then shake his fist at me when I blew my horn.

Warm Regards,
Lyle

I wholeheartedly agree, my life was changed when I was a passenger in a car that was "head-onned"
Although the damage to my body has pretty much healed, the scars are not visible to others but it changed my way of thinking.....please come and accept my challenge of adages, Betty

Excellent Gregory and I hope every one reads this.
You have touched on a very serious point.

Gregory: a point well taken! Your comments after the poem help drive home the point.
