Eternal Rome
by Gregory Christiano (Age: 61)
copyright 06-15-2003

Age Rating: 10 to 127

  Eternal Rome

Romulus, son of Mars and Rhea,
Grandson of Numitor, King of Alba,
Twin brother of Remus,
Founder of Rome and first King,
Built upon Mount Palatine this wonder.
The gods favored him fully,
By triumphs of arms and terror of their name,
The Romans rose
As did the city Roma
To grace the civilized world in
Law and culture, art and literature
During succession of ages
Rose to heights of universal empire.
Rome, Mistress of the World!
Romulus, ranked among the gods
Receiving thus, divine humors
Under the name Quirinus.
Dominion of all the world.

The sands of Egypt did not deter you.
To the river Elb a conquest made,
From the Tigris and Euphrates you held sway.
Then the Bosphorous and Black Sea
Mare Nostrum turned the inland sea
From the Danube to the Pillars of Hercules
All belongs to you
All yours, Divine Rome
The isle of Britannia held under your yoke,
Mars received the most unbounded honors
For here Rome's foot fell upon the neck of her enemies.
Drink then from the Tiber
And by the ancient Mare Tyrrhenum
Ruled in splendor and glory.
Rome ageless, Rome eternal.

I love this poem, though I must admit that Rome to me never seemed as civilized as Athen's was....

Amazing work, Gregory. This is marvelous, and I love the way you write it. I can almost picture a soldier giving this as a toast around a table.

PERFECT, my rate. Rome is like the coolest place on Earth. Everything in Rome is cool. I heard the ice cream tasted better then American ice cream.

Gregory: another fine-tuned and well researched
poem. I like your style, and the educational value of your poems.

Splendour, beauty, power and majesty......but alas, gone, language all but dead, time passes.

A superb poem rich with history and a fine tribute to the magnificance of the Roman Empire.

Warm Regards,
Lyle
