Steward And Jill

  Steward And Jill

Steward said, " Love makes the world go round or so I've often heard,
but what can you do when passion’s dance comes to a halting standstill? "

" You keep your footsteps moving on, find the next-in-line pretty bird.
There's an Ivory girl at each lamp-lit corner, take your pick, " snickered his friend Jill.

He was taken aback by her lack of concern. " The love that they give is a 4-letter word.
I want to be more than the next dirty trick, just a john who means nothing but money. "

" Think in terms of unfrozen assets, pre-ordained paradise in the offing, Dear Steward.
Day-Glo deadpan, inexpressive performance, what’s wrong with some female company? "

Steward was a bit perplexed. " One night stands are not my style, " he said, hotly angered.
He pulled out his gun when their break-time was over. " No ifs, ands, or buts.
Today’s fate is sealed, its state of mind can’t be altered. Emotional strangers,
do-nothing-doldrums, stagnated lives dismissed in the tale of a speeding bullet. "

He was quick on the trigger, fast-forward motion precisely disfigured
the plate-glass window, once clear perfection, no longer bore Fitch, just Abercrombie.

Customers gawked in bewildered amazement, news vans arrived, headlines were ensured
ala Grimm’s fairy-tale with all the trappings; gallows brand humor, a broadcast story.

Satellite signals begin, " The only ones who died today were six famished mannequins
who were posed, then exposed in emaciated thinness, their worldly beauty caricatured
by gaunt runway supermodels, young heroin addicts shooting up deadly toxins,
digging their graves of warped memories.
Unavailable love is life's absurdity, answered. "

Steward and Jill left the scene quite un-noticed, they made their way to the next city-mall;
quite happy that they would become infamous cult leaders, just like Bonnie and Clyde.

This time their actions weren't the least bit innocent, the bomb was a bright fireball.
Dangerous thrill-seeking crimes would guarantee their names would be forever glorified.

I give this a perfect ten for its style, imagery and imaginative exchange of dialogue, which is difficult to express in a poem. Wonderful and unique.
Warmest regards,
gregory

Nancy: This certainly is a unique and unusual poem. I like the long lines and rhyme schemes
in this poem, as well as the sober message.
