I follow not the well-worn trail,
The easy road, the watered vale
Through verdent trellised garden grass;
The path that others walk en masse.
I flow with neither tide nor stream
Of whimsical and passing dream,
Of generally accepted trend,
Where shallow reasonings descend.
The trail I choose, the skiff I ride
Against the stream and swelling tide;
Against all popular demand -
Is where I make my moral stand.
