An Angel Speaks
by Janet Owenby
copyright 06-25-2003

Age Rating: 13 to 127

From my mothers arms cast aside
and sent to heaven to reside.
Single tear lingers in my eye,
and my mind still questions, "Why?"

I ask my mother down below,
where is the love you could not show.
You did not hear me when I cried,
as you left me lying outside.

On the steps of a cheap motel,
you sold your mortal soul to hell.
Left behind a bundle to weep,
and laid your weary head to sleep.

Does the baby you left behind,
still weigh upon your troubled mind.
Do you still hear my cries at night.
and wish you could make it all right.

I am happy up here above,
because I have the angel's love.
I miss my mother down below,
and all the love she could not show.

Janet: Touching indeed, and true of today's society where people cast off babies like an old pair of shoes. This is no better than abortion and all of its evils. Powerful and straightforward. You will hit a sensitive cord of compassion and anger in many people. Excellent write.
Warm regards,
Gregory

This poem was inspired by a true event and I wondered if that child could speak to her mother from heaven what she might say, Well I was vbery upset when I wrote it, so if your offended do not read.
