Evening thoughts
by Walter Jones (Age: 62)
copyright 02-27-2004

Age Rating: 18 to 127

The wind broke in among the trees leaving pieces of life scattered everywhere. The neighborhood cats were feasting on broken eggs, baby chicks still to young to fly. My St Bernard took it upon himself to save a few from certain death. Pack rat had little use for most of the local cats and found it fun to toss them into the little creek by the house. The noise finally reached a point where I had to go out and chain him to the post. When I woke in the morning I found the post down and the yard tore up. Pack rat playing knock the squirrel, a game he found fun, do not think the squirrel liked it much.

After breakfast, I went out to survey the damage done by both the dog and the storm. It was hard to tell which was going to cause me more work.

Pack rat drug the pole over to me, I un hooked him from the tangled mess. We have been together for five or six years now. I think of him more of a friend than a mere dog.

Mixed some crete dumped it in the hole and reset the post, need to remember not to chain Pack rat to it again, not much can hold that dog. Replaced the shingles that had blown off the roof, trimmed the tree limbs, raked the yard, built a small fire to burn up
the rubble and debris. Found a cold beer in the cooler and plopped my butt down and watched Pack rat catch field mice for his old tomcat friend.

Tom cat was going blind and I think he had a touch of
age in his bones in any case he didn't move fast enough to catch mice anymore. It was a great game they played Pack rat would catch the mice and knock them over to tomcat, and tomcat would try to knock them back, this could go on for hours, hell of a sight to see.

Tomcat and Pack rat had been hanging out since I moved in. Pack rat carried this mangy looking cat by the scruff of his neck and dropped him by the door
stood their and waited until I feed him, that was about five years ago.

I suppose I better get to work, got Pack rat into the yard. Locked up the gate, set out some water for him and bowl of milk for tomcat.

Headed in to work, the sun was peeking through the clouds and it was just a great day to be a live.

More to come

someday

Walt, despite a few spelling errors, I think your story has promise. I certainly look forward to more chapters to read.
