Kaitlin Smith walked home with a bagful of groceries in her arms. She was on her way home, and it was getting late. Her live-in boyfriend didn't like it when she got home too late. He preferred it when she was home by the cerfew time he had given her.
She was a pretty, dark-haired young woman with brown eyes and pale skin. She had a slight, petite build that suited her tall, slender height. She often wore jeans and loose fitting shirts to hide her figure; she found them to be more comfortable.
She looked at her watch again--it was only five minutes later than the last time she looked. Yet she was anxious to be home on time. David Kobliski, her boyfriend, was well-known for his temper. He especially had a tendancy to make it well-known to her.
Kaitlin stopped suddenly to look over her shoulder. For weeks now, she kept having this strange feeling that she was being followed.
When she saw that she wasn't, she continued to hurry home.

He managed to keep a fair distance from her, but his vision was quite sharp.
He had been following her much longer than she had thought. The first time he saw her working as an orderly at the hotel all those weeks ago, he knew that she was one of the Chosen.
He still remembered the first day he had met her. He had left a room with a business associate when he literally bumped into her. He had scared her so terribly she had cornered into a wall.
She wouldn't move until he had left.
She was clearly frightened to begin with, he knew.
Slowly and carefully, he continued to follow Kaitlin.

When Kaitlin had entered her apartment, she saw that her live-in boyfriend was fast asleep in his overstuffed chair.
Kaitlin sighed in relief; she was ten minutes late and he wouldn't even have to know it.
She stared at him for a long moment, wandering where their relationship went wrong. He had been so loving once, and suddenly he became so vicious.
The sad thing about this . . . she still loved him. She knew she shouldn't, but she still loved him.
She quickly put away the groceries before quickly running to her room. She didn't want David to find her crying. He hated it when she did so.
Kaitlin walked up to the window, wiping her tears. As she looked down at the street, she froze when she recognized the man--it was the same man she bumped into not too long ago. She had a fight with David that day, and she had been upset before even coming across this stranger.
Could he have followed her here? Was he stalking her?
She looked into his pale but handsome features for a moment. When he blinked, he was gone.
Kaitlin stepped away from the window, a nervous chill crawling up her spine.
