Starless Sky

“An ageless story I will share
with you, my dear tonight.
About how your dreams can come true
if you do what is right.”

“Once in a place so far away
there lived a poor old man.
He carved wooden toys for children,
a real life Peter Pan.”

“Late one evening all alone
he made a puppet toy
and wished so much upon a star
to make it a real boy.”

“The next day when he awoke
his toy, it wasn’t there.
He sat and cried for hours,
his heart was in despair.”

“He looked up and dried his tears
and jumped up in surprise,
the wooden boy that he had made
was right before his eyes.”

“A puppet though he was no more,
he stood a boy so real.
For he could jump and laugh and play
and touch and smell and feel.”

“The man was deeply overjoyed.
With the boy he’d laugh and play.
Their lives were filled with happiness
each and every single day.”

The mother kissed her child goodnight
and tucked her into bed.
“Sweet dreams my precious darling.”
she so kindly said.

The little girl sat up and smiled
as she thought about her dream.
Her heart was filled with happiness,
as her eyes started to gleam.

She climbed unto her window
and watched her dream slip by.
Her smile had quickly faded
for it was a starless sky.
