Kiss off
by Walter Jones (Age: 63)
copyright 07-14-2003

Age Rating: 16 to 127

When I saw the sun
I knew that this was love
buried in your loving arms
I watched the day come to me

The smell of morning
rested sweetly on my lips
the love of life
at my finger tips

Soft as the rays of light
blinding my loving eyes
warm as the kiss
filling all my skies

like angels singing
I hear your voice
you in arms of love
by your own choice

Temptation lives in my mind
a true life of love
held against the odds
of all of time

The scent of day floats
gently in the air
you wrapped up with me
I do not have a care

As strange as life is
I think you understand
love is the question mark
that holds the hand

When I saw the sun
I slowly walked away
in my heart I feel
your kiss even today

Great is the story
sweet is the line
night in all it's glory
just what is time

Kiss me in the morning
hold me through the night
tell me tales or lies
make my world alright

Each must return
to the path of glory
inspite of what
our hearts might yearn

No day goes by
with out the dream
still when you are gone
I throw back my head and scream

Why must it be like this

A comment I was going to leave
but words have failed me once again
Perhaps more truthful, I guess
if I were to say they weren't my friend

For, yes, they're here
and in abundance as they've been
But this night they're on their own
taking more reign than they've been given

See, I read your poem and was so moved
Absorbed in each and every emotional line
I read your story, heart on sleeve
and made what's yours... completely mine

But somewhere along the path
The tale took a peculiar twist
And running rampantly wayward
My thoughts turned out something like this.....

A Knight Like This
(Reply to Kiss Off)

When first I saw our son
I knew that he was love
Holding him in loving arms
It will have to be enough

The smell of tears and mourning
Fell gently from my aching lips
The premature end to your life
Left me with but a single wish

Holding Junior close and tight
I pray while salt wells in bitter eyes
Remembering your tender kiss
Before eternal love and bliss both were lies

I'm left with this angel sweetly singing
In his cries, I hear your voice
Held close to me in arms of love
I've heard no sweeter noise

Yes, this child's a true gift of love
And sanity quickly leaves my mind
See, he's beaten all the mounted odds
And now somehow you're still mine

The scent of dismay floats gently
like a butterfly in the morbid air
But as long as he's wrapped up with me
It never seems to land here

As strange as life has been
I know you'd understand
Life is certainly uncertain
Dealing us each ill fated hands

When first I saw your son
And felt irony's game that day
In my heart I felt you near
Could taste your kiss, even still today

Great is our love's story
Sweetness in every line
My knight in all his glory
Conquers even death and time

Kate, kiss me in the mourning
Carry me through this lonesome knight
Tell me dragon tales, winsome and wise
Tell me again, some day I'll be alright

On our road to glory
To dust we must return
Despite the wayward paths
Our hearts might make us yearn

No day passes that I don't cry
For death stole you and my dreams
And so oft' I join in Junior's chorus
To throw back my head and scream

Why does it always end like this?
---------------------------
So, if imitation be flattery
What call you this you've done to me?
Your words haunt my thoughts until
Another poem's born of me!

Thank you, Walt, as always
For your inspiration and your rhyme
Always fodder for feeding what yearns
Always waking this muse of mine!

From what I've seen love will never last (but keep in mind I haven't seen a whole lot besides messy divorce and premature puppy love). A very heart-felt write, you draw the reader into this fantasy land where everything is alright in the arms of a lover only to shake them awake as the realization dawns that it was all just a dream so to speak. The emotions were false, all of it was a cruel game and you were the pawn. Excellent write.
