  The Aged
Picture Credits:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There, downcast brows are seen,
As years elapsed sequester'd.
Whispering memories so keen,
A mortal life divested.
A modest life is here and gone,
Like seasons' steal a moment's time,
Lie down at last to sleep and mourn,
As dying embers fade in lime.
Yea, we shall sleep the years away, as must,
'Till labors and turmoil are no more,
Our mortal flesh mingles with the dust,
The twilight's peaceful hour closed.
There, downcast brows are seen,
As years elapsed sequester'd.
Whispering memories so keen,
A mortal life divested.
Who will say our prime is past?
Sparks of life ebbs and lessens.
The race with time will never last,
Bewail our fetters, we mus'n't.
Cunning is the hand of fate,
It teases us with youthful sighs,
Call all the aged home in haste,
Before they crawl to some corner to die!
O! proud souls call the aged home
And call the aged home
And call the aged home,
Across the sands of many lands
And call the aged home.
These downcast brows are seen,
As years elapse sequester'd.
Whispering memories so keen,
A mortal life invested!
Fill our hearts with hope and prayer;
Fill the spirit's need to care,
Turn our hunger for life to dare
To shake these thoughts of such despair
Go! and greet to-morrow;
Hunt down your dreams in frozen streams
Of breathless, listless sorrow.
The sweep away all doubt and dream!
O! proud souls, age comes quickly,
And call the aged home
And call the aged home
Across the sands of many lands,
And call the aged home!
Malignant heretics of death
Expiate from gloom and doom,
Have thankful thoughts, it would not be right
To greet the darkness much too soon.
So, cast away your worried frowns,
Cast them all asunder,
And call the aged home to life,
Embrace life in all its wonder.
I really like this, but I want to change one line. 3rd stanza, last line,"The twilight's peaceful hour closed." to, " Twilight's hour closes the door. " What do you think? This as it is is a great poem and it takes you on the journey of life. Thanks, Anthony
