Fall Days
The trees are alive
with the rustle of leaves
and the songs of birds
preparing to fly south.
The vibrant colors
are showing off
for the bus loads
of curious leaf peepers.
Traces of lacy frost
cover the morning grass
as the nights become
longer and colder.
Crisp apples and warm donuts
scent the evening air
with unforgettable
autumn odors.
School buses stop
doors open and excited
children climb aboard
the first days of school.
Fall my favorite time of year
preparing for the cold winter
hauling cords of wood
to burn on hearths.
Sights, sounds and odors
fill my head
with peaceful thoughts
of pristine days to come.
