I look up because there is a slight change in the lighting from my coffee bean colored blind as the sun's rays are blocked by a minute being. A tiny female canary head and shoulders show through the window above the window edging.
The little orange beak opens, beseeching me to feed it, looking right at me through the window it speaks again. I cannot hear it over the sound of my computer tower’s fan, the air conditioner and through the glass of the double-pane window but I understand.
This happened yesterday too. Feeling a need to help, I found sesame seeds in the freezer and some raw sunflower seeds too, so I put them on the corner of the stoop, off white and gray against gray concrete.
Today I am privileged again; this time I see Daddy canary, yellow and black, so boldly beautiful. He sits in the tree just outside and watches my window. The wind makes the branch bounce about a foot or so. Sun lights his coat, then shadow and leaves help to hide him again. The flash from my camera doesn't seem to bother him at all.
I check the stoop. Only the sunflower seeds are there today. I put out a mound of sesame seeds; I think that is the answer they are seeking. What an honor, to be singled out as a friend to a canary family.

A wonderful vision Betty. I love birds and have raised several parrots and other breeds from hand-fed babies to adult (blue and gold macaws, severe macaws, nobles, Hahn's, Love birds, Sun Conures, etc). They are such loving creatures.
Warm Regards,
Lyle
Loved this one Betty and would enjoy your permission to use it in my mag. I especially liked the fact that while you were watching out of the window at the canary family, we were priviledged to peep at you! DAWN
What a wonderful story, Betty..since all the woods behind my house have been razed in order for a new sub-division to be built, we have different types of birds coming round our house to feed.
