At the apogee
of emotional endurance,
shall I dive now
headlong to termination?
Annihilate the aging body
and the tormented psyche?
Betcha Beelzebub
has got plans for me
and is just itchin’ to sink
his fork into another
backslidden
loser.
Wallowing faith deep in filth,
shall I fulfill the prophecy
(the prodigal picture of my gone world)
just friggin’ crawl in a dumpster
(no muss – no fuss)
and fellate my forty-four?

We are the same age - 56. Age catches up with us and we feel lousy sometimes, but I keep a skip in my step and a smile on my face. I refuse to enter the bleak and hopeless world of H. Bosch. Bielzebub can go to hell! This is a stirring and hell-bent poem, one that gives me the shudders, which it was meant to do. Very nice Lyle.
Warm regards,
Gregory
Often we have a deep desperation inside us. WE feel it and we smell it. We desperately try to cope with it.
But... you are not loser. "At the apogee
of emotional endurance..." you stay alive and
strong.
I admire you and your poem!
Irina.
