Picture Credits:
Not the blood of a hart
on the woodsman’s dagger;
nor the heart of that stag
in a jewel-crusted box.
Not the mirror of truth
on the wall of a castle;
nor sweet apple with venom
in a cruel witch queen’s claws.
Not benevolent dwarves
to rescue a princess;
nor surreal existence
in Disney World bliss.
Not an elegant prince
on a prancing white charger;
nor, for his fair lady,
an awakening kiss.
No, the blood of Snow White
stains the blade of the hunter;
her heart dripping gore
soils his grisly game bag.
And the mirror of coercion,
in bleak castle halls wails.
All’s deception in life -
just as in fairytales.
