All the Good Words

I sometimes feel that all the good poems have been written
and that we modern day, would-be poets have no recourse
but to rehash rhymes and meter that has already been conceived -
poems that writers more noble, long dead, had previously penned.
I sometimes think that all the best lyrics have been composed
and that we contemporary, aspiring songwriters have no choice
but to re-do all the overdone themes, verses and choruses -
songs that are mere imitations of greater works already sung.
I sometimes believe that all the good words have been taken
and that we progressive, wanna-be writers have no alternative
but to paraphrase and parrot revised versions of ancient thoughts -
tales inscribed long before us on stone, animal hide, and papyrus.

I tend to agree, but then I think, no one else could feel the way I feel. I love to discover that someone else does, and puts it into words that bring it all back to me, words that I am incapable of expressing even though I understand them very well. Write on, Lyle!
Yes, there is nothing new under the sun....but we can say it differently. Words have power. The trick is to arrange them in a way to make an impact. Istill don't believe that one about the monkeys typing a Shakespeare play, hogwash, it takes something a little more human. Nice way of putting it Lyle.
All the best,
Gregory
