Driving home after doing my shopping
Admiring the hedgerows ~ honeysuckle and dog-rose
Next moment, wham! I'm emergency stopping
Could hardly believe it, my eyes were a-popping
Deep in the forest there's no Highway Code
Look right, left, right, before crossing the road
A herd of deer, with no thought of stopping
Jumped out in front of me, going hedge-hopping
One after the other, when would it end?
What if a car came from just round that bend?
I waited a little while, after they'd gone ~
My instinct was right ~ yet another one!
When from behind me there came a great roar
A furious driver feeling right sore
At being delayed by some silly dame
He never saw the deer playing their 'chicken' game
Nor smelt the sweet roses along the lane
Over-wrought with self-inflicted strain
My home was but a mile away
The shopping chore a treat that day
I was sorry for that man so over-stressed
If not so angry, he'd likely be depressed
Thank goodness I've finally learnt to 'let go'
Of past resentments and made time to go slow
Now each day has its own particular glow
I learn all the time
And set it to rhyme
