Caged Melody
by Shannon Jaime (Age: 19)
copyright 11-16-2003

Age Rating: 13 to 127

I want to hide away,
To return to my safe, lonely shadows,
But these voices will not disappear
As they linger,
Deafening as chaos.

I want to escape,
To run from this criticizing scrutiny,
But I am trapped like a caged animal
Under their gazes,
An inauspicious phantom.

I want to be noticed,
To have someone take heed of my cries,
But no one listens to the pain of my heart
When reality beckons,
An anarchic song.

I want to shed lucent tears,
To rid myself of dormant sadness,
But then I know they will not stop
Their burning rage,
Their melancholy reign.

I want to find the melody of peace,
To embrace the sweet zephyr of silence,
But the world will never cease its turmoil,
Its unbridled havoc--
The immortal agony refrain.
