They got them pickers now-a-days
Can pick eight rows at once;
In an hour they can pick more corn
Than we picked in a month.
Well, I remember years ago
We picked from early morn;
The fun we had a huskin' it,
Why, 'twas worth more than the corn!
The whole fam'ly'd go a-huskin';
We'd have a good old time,
A-tellin' jokes and spinnin' yarns
And recitin' little rhymes.
Today the fam'ly's breakin' up
And driftin' all apart.
I think part of the problem is
We've gotten way too smart.
Perhaps we should slow down a bit
Just like the good old days,
With whole fam'lies huskin' corn
And forget how much it pays.

Moses, first of all I love your pen name. This poem captures in a very clever and subtle way how we have evolved. Everything in our lives is faster now than they were 100 years ago and they will keep getting faster, but ironically and unknowingly humanity is getting pulled apart. I absoulutely LOVE this poem. You should consider getting it published!!!!
It's these big conglomerates that are driving out the private family farmer. It's happening in my area, Sussex County New Jersey, where many dairy farmers are going under. Also I recently learned how labor intensive it is to pick coffee...bean by bean by hand. Farming is so important, yet it is treated as a secondary industry! Nice poem Moses.
