You Were There
by Heather Jackson (Age: 30)
copyright 08-26-2003

Age Rating: 16 to 127

You were there
You were there the day we found out that Daddy died
And I swear I saw you smirk
You were there as his body lay in the next room
And you made me feel guilty for wanting to stay
You were there when you could have gone home
But that would have cost you power
So you were there

You were there
You were there they day I told what had been done
And you threw me across the room in rage
You were there to be sure I lied
And to accuse me of stealing my sisters’ Christmas away
You were there as I covered his back
Because you couldn’t be wrong
So you were there

You were there
You were there the night your husband first came to me
And you slept in your bed alone that night
You were there the next morning when I didn’t speak up
I didn’t want to upset you on Mother’s Day
You were there as I suffered in silence
Because you couldn’t suffer more
Yes, you were there

You were there
You were there one night as he snuck into my room
And you pretended it was only another pimple on my butt
You were there, asleep with earplugs in bed
And he stole my innocence and virginity
You were there when I’m sure you knew what he did
But you didn’t want to believe me
But you were there

You were there
But never the way Daddy was, never
If he was my tower, you were the battering ram
If he was my shield, you were the flaming arrows
If he was my strength, you were the illness that steals life away
Daddy was always there, even if I wasn’t aware
But you were there too, and you I could never ignore
Because you were there!

Its hard to believe that parents would turn a blind eye to their own children. Your story although sad is also a common story. Too many children are faced with these proublems. I wrote a poem called, "Torn And Tattered" and I would love to know what you think about it. Thanks, Anthony

Awesome that you can find the love in God above all things. I am most sorry for your trials. I defintely felt this one. Very Vivid...

Heather, this poem deserves more than a 10 in my estimation..to speak out about the evil in our lives helps us to heal as well as assuring others that they are not alone in this world. BRAVO!!
Nancy

The courage to speak out to the world with such strong content to me deserves a perfect ten.

It must of took lots of guts to write this. I am so glad that you did though.
