Gentle Heart
by Gregory Christiano (Age: 61)
copyright 09-06-2003

Age Rating: 7 to 127

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Steadfast to the shrine of truth,
Soaring to the sun's bright light,
Showering down its rays and heat,
In word and deed, to do what's right!
This creed to keep in strength replete,
Which every soul should heed!
To be ever true the long day through,
As does the sun repeat!
Silent thoughts, the only prayers,
And climb to mountains' peaks,
To meekly wait a moment's breath,
To shed the clouds, and day-beams seek!
Stronghold of integrity,
Of gentleness and love,
To mark the footsteps sorely tried,
Storing treasure up above!
So, heart, be stout and brave,
Like muffled drums to beat.
And clothe within immortal joy,
The pure in heart entreat.
Splendid hope appears again,
In everlasting courts of Jove!
Unperishing - the wealth in hand,
This gentle heart, there to command.
I read this and thought of Randolph Scott. Now, before you laugh it wasn't intended as a joke (as in Blazing Saddles)... but honestly... he always did what was right and virtuous, knowing full well that the moment one decides to do the "right" thing, it will not always be easy and may not always be the thing that brings immediate happiness... or happiness at all in some cases (physically and superficially speaking, of course), but that in doing the right thing the one choosing to do so will receive a deeper sense of satisfaction from winning the war, larger than any of us can ever know. I hope this made sense to you. :-)
This poem is fantastic reminds me of something the
12th century Poets would write. A real touch of class with positive expression. A perfect 10 from me.
Beautifully written, Gregory. This is a swell read, and a "feel good" sort of poem; very positive and upbeat. Very enjoyable.
