God spoke, and existence was
God called light from the darkness
His word ignited the flaming sun
Separated the sky from the sea
And then called forth the dry land
God spoke, and the earth was green
Carpeted with every growing thing
God called life from nothingness
To fill the sky, the sea, and the land
God’s word providing infinite variety
But God had not finished yet
And instead of calling forth humanity
God formed us, breathing life into us
And God, who had spoken existence
Called what He had done in us good
Still He was not finished
The Word that was with God
The Word that is God
The Word became man
And died and was resurrected for man
And God, who is the Word
God, whose word caused the birth
Of all the universe, all that is
God’s powerful, mighty word
Will sing over us in joy
Can you grasp the wonder?
Can you hear the melody?
Can your mind conceive of the sound
Of Almighty God who spoke the world
Singing in joy for you?
Perhaps that is how Heaven is formed
Perhaps that is how God prepares our place
When each lost child comes home
Each soul is written in the book of life
And all of heaven bursts forth in a symphony
And then, echoing over the eternal chorus
Calling over the Holy, Holy, Holies
The voice who called earth out of the void
Calls forth in pure joy a dwelling place
That makes this shell pale in comparison
That is what I am waiting for
To see the creator of the universe
To see the bliss in His face
To hear the song of His heart
When He brings me home to Him again
While I wait, I will offer what I can
And though my voice holds none of His power
He inhabits the praise of His people
So until I can hear His song first hand
I will sing every new song for Him
