The broken heart of darkness is crying;
A pale, crumbling moon sheds starry tears.
The forlorn soul of the night is dying;
Shadows of silence no longer appear.
Pallid breaths of phantom clouds are fading;
Frigid silver mists grow faint with sorrow.
Diamond splashes of stars cease cascading;
Twilight weeps for the dawn of tomorrow.
The breeze sighs softly with a mournful song;
Haunting whispers echo like shattered chimes.
Resonance of tormented hush prolongs;
Lamenting refrain seeks escape from time.
As sunrise comes and bright daylight is cast,
Wistful moans drift in the grief of the past.
