I'm often asked "what's a good time to ring?"
Should I hear it, your best chance is early morning
If only I could train my acute sense of smell
To assist my response to the telephone's bell
When lifting the receiver, the house name's my reply
Excepting those times when brain cells pass me by
So, don't be surprised to be greeted one day
With a pause, an 'Eh', then 'Don't know what to say!'
I forget my number ~ it's not written down
If I sound like an idiot, please do not frown
Say who you are, and ask 'is that Dawn?'
When I know who I am, I might slip back to norm
If you formally request speech with 'Mrs Staple'
I might try to find her, if I feel able
For she was once my Mother-in-Law
Way back in distant days of yore
I often forget that now I am she
(I'd take it kindly, if you'd remind me)
Finally, when I know I'm DAWN and you're YOU
We might even manage some 'How Do You Do!'
When Cognitive Dysfunction brings Brain 'Fog' or Mist
It's only the M.E. ~ I'm not really pissed!
Here's an idea, which you might care to ponder ~
Forget ringing me and dial a 'Wrong Number'
