He spoke in sensual, romantic, rose-scented forms
His persuasive poetry engraved itself
into semiotic signs and seductive symbols
Sensuous sonnets on my inner woman's heart
More than emotionally touched,
I was utterly drained
Consumed by his kind of torrential love
One burning question grew embedded roots
within my withered dying heart;
Can I ever hope to love this way again?
Intently dismal, lost inside a barren spiritual wasteland
I slowly wandered to the neglected weed-filled garden
left totally untended by the gardener du jour
Ill-prepared for winter-time's uncaring attitude,
all I wanted was to be alone
so I could wallow in my pointless pain and wanton misery
God opened up my blinded eyes to His peaceful footbridge beauty
and blue-skyed solitude;
the palpable feeling I was meant to master living
with green grass in abundance underneath my unshod feet
“ Do away with your paltry pity and bare-boned survival tips
Drink to your new-found health; an unlimited fill
of delightful liquid nourishment from
my sparkling crystal chalice. ”
From where I stood, I could see a marble statue of Jesus
Conversing in quiet tranquility with the woman at the well
The welcoming arms of late October’s well-groomed cemetery
was soothing, close to heaven in its vast wide open spaces
The ultimate loss of civilized do-nothing cultivation
brings about the wildest blooming rose
A fountain growing stronger in adversity,
my fortitude is flourishing
Long-lasting invocations flowing like the mighty river Jordan;
a scattering of fragrant perfumed petals
blows across the dry and arid land of my dislocated heart
The choice is ours; accepting mankind’s deathly closures,
or God’s grace, His heavenly openings
The Universal miracle of faith works everything out
when you place the whole of you
in the mighty hands of His eternal love
