Carolina Rose And A Texas Tumbleweed
by Janet Owenby
copyright 10-03-2003

Age Rating: 10 to 127

I remember that summer day we met;
some things my heart just can't forget.
I was captured by your midnight blue oceans,
that stared into my inner emotions.

Carolina rose fell for a tumbleweed,
that rolled in from Texas to spread his seed.
We traipsed across sapphire painted mountains,
and bathed within love's aquamarine fountains.

On a blanket beneath God's topaz moon,
our heart's palpitated with passion's tune.
Autumn would bring an end to our romance,
but we savored every moonlit dance.

A tumbleweed was intended to roam
and your Lone Star State was calling you home.
I kissed my Texas tumbleweed good -bye
and shed tarnished diamonds from my eye.

A Carolina rose still weeps for you,
here in these cascading mountains of blue.
My heart's wilted petals will often bleed
when I recall a wayward tumbleweed.

When I look at these Carolina skies,
I still recall, that sparkle in your eyes.
I wonder if forgotten embers flame,
and if Texas stars still whisper my name.

Do you dream of a Carolina rose,
whenever an old Texas dust storm blows?
Do thorns pierce your heart like mountain nettles?
Do you miss the touch of satin petals?

Wonderful with the jewel imagery and the portrait it paints in my mind. As the line in "Chucky's Girl" goes: "Why can't I find a love like that?"

Warm Regards,
Lyle

Hi Janet, um...I was just wondering, did you get my email? Fantastic poem by the way, sorry I didn't comment on this earlier, but I couldn't think of anything to say, I think love poems are kinda gross, the poem is beautiful, but if everyday you saw people making out in public, you just might have the same opinion. @_@; lol ^-^

Janet,
Spreading around to everyone that it is really important the most current site report is read. PnP is in trouble and under threat of shutting down before the month is through. We need all the help we can get. Please, Janet, read the report and help spread the word around. PnP needs all the donations possible. I'm going around and trying to get sponsors. If we can get sponsors, plus members, it would be amazing. Please, help support the site and spread the word around?

Forever,
Debra.

Janet, what a picture you've painted of love lost..beautifully sad, and yearning.

A great LOVE song! All charming metaphors are not from the dictionary, but from your heart. This poem like an aquarelle painted by heart.
I love your poem, Janet!
Irina.

This poem left tears in my eyes. It is the perfect tale of a southern romance--a sad fairytale and yearning. Beautiful work, Janet. You have such amazing skills!

And now...for the ultimate question...Was this written on the whim of a muse, or do you happen to be the Carolina dreaming of the Tumbleweed to come back to you?

Great ode to Southern love. Nicely crafted, good luck in the contest.
Warmest regards,
