Solitude
by Christopher Doss (Age: 21)
copyright 10-15-2003

Age Rating: 7 to 127

I not only seek, but crave solitude.
There is only enough space in my world at times
for one and sometimes even he crowds me.
I prefer sitting in a secluded spot by the river,
lost among the trees and bushes;
only a minutes walk from reality
yet far enough away to fool myself.
I close my eyes and forget I exist,
opening my mind to sounds and sensations.
I listen to the wind speak to the trees
as it weaves its way between the leaves,
then continues its journey to unknown places.
I wish I could follow its example, set my mind free
to flow without boundaries or limitations.
I am both elated and saddened as it brushes my face,
and kisses me goodbye.

I don't usually like free verse because they are usually just sentences rambling, but this was a good read. Thanks, Anthony

I really enjoyed it,especially the line "only a minutes walk from reality ".
Most creative use of solitude is exactly this.
Thanks for putting me in solace and in a beautiful world of thoughts.

Praveen

I have those feelings often. Wanting to walk away from reality and hide in the depths of my mind. Nature also makes me feel detatched from the rest of the world. It's absent human life.
Great read.

Catherine
