Many people think that “under God” should be taken out of the Pledge of Allegiance. They don’t believe in Him. They think that He is something made up by a couple of stoners named Moses and Paul who decided they should write down their lies, along with a couple guys named David, Solomon, Matthew, Mark, Luke…
I say they should. They should remove everything that some people don’t believe in, because, by them saying it, it desecrates what it stands for. But I’m not talking about “Under God”.
I’m talking about “With Liberty.” People don’t believe in Liberty any more. And every single time I here the pledge being muttered in its usual drawl, with students placing an open palm over their hearts in a motion that used to mean something, it makes me sick. It kills me to hear all this talk about Liberty. When a kid simply moans out the words, it's like nails on a chalkboard.
Right now you’re thinking that we are in the most liberated state we have ever been in. And in a way, we are. If you believe that it’s okay to be gay and get married, you are tolerated and allowed to say what you think. If you think our president is a moron who should stick his tongue in the nearest electric socket he finds, you are allowed to say this. If you believe that those damned Right Wing conspirators are out to get Bill and Hillary, well then, cry it from the mountain tops.
However, if you don’t believe any of those things, you have two options: speak out and have so many lawsuits slapped upon you that you can’t even think straight, or not say a word and live under the oppression of the left. Don’t believe me? When was the last time Ann Coulter had a fair and balanced interview about her opinions without someone calling her a “Scarecrow” (Phil Hendry, a left-wing and most likely schizophrenic talk show host) or host of other names, none of which pleasant?
Have you ever heard Hillary being called a “Scarecrow” on television or radio? How about an unpleasant name that could hurt her feelings?
Let me tell you something: our country is not free. We are not free thinkers. I went to public school, you know. I was told to be quiet when I said that I thought George Bush was doing a bang-up job in office (way to go, Dubbya!). When a teacher saw me holding The Virtue of Selfishness, my teacher nearly went into cardiac arrest. I’m sure she’s never read it, but what liberal isn’t scared to death of the name Ayn Rand? But when my friend (let’s call her Bunny) Bunny brought her lovely work of literary greatness *hack, cough*, Hillary’s autobiography, the teacher applauded her for reading such advanced work! Not that philosophy on objectivism is advanced. It’s cruel and heinous.
Tell me where my liberty was when I was told under no uncertain terms that I couldn’t read Atlas Shrugged for free reading! Tell me where it was when I couldn’t read Slander. Tell me where my liberty was when I called someone black, and was scolded (even though she wasn’t born in Africa, she was still African-American. I’m white! I’m not European American). Tell me where my liberty was when I tried to tell my teacher I was offended by her calling George Bush an idiot when she had only the day before told me that if I called Al Gore a tree-hugging pansy again I would be sent to the principal?!?
I HAVE NO LIBERTIES. I AM CONSERVATIVE.
Screw this. I am sick and tired of hearing all this Liberty and Justice for all crap. I have no liberties. I’ll tell you what: say it when you mean it. Until then, in the name of decency, take the phrase out. Just don’t say it, it isn’t true anymore.
