Evil Garden Of Greed
by Janet Owenby
copyright 10-11-2003

Age Rating: 13 to 127

Evil seedling residing beneath stones,
casting dark shadows upon mankind's heart.
Velvet petals decorate silver thrones,
hiding poison thorns beneath nature's art.

Darkness lurking underneath garden's veil,
luring innocence with blossom's essence.
Waiting for precise moment to excel,
clutching victims within wicked presence.

Entangled vines snaring purity's soul,
reaching up from an infernal abyss.
Garden created by Hell's ash and coal,
and fertilized by Satan's deadly kiss.

Glide into darkness with Lucifer's fold,
when you sacrifice Salvation for gold.

Wow, Janet, this is excellent! I might not have 'understood' it the way you planned because I don't know whose greed you're talking about either, but your poem is brilliant, and teaches many great lessons like It's not what's on the outside that counts, and things aren't always what they seem... I love the couplet by the way, it sort of sums everything up!

Thank-you Denise, I see someone knows exactly what I am talking about.

Greed is one of the deadly sins no matter in what reference. The devil will have his due and the greedy will Pay! Nice work.

Hmm...not sure who's greed you're talking about, but I lovedthe poem all the same. Beautiful imagery

Sometimes the great thing about poetry is only the author understands it, but for the record think about a dark veil and silver thrones and you will realize exactly whose greed I am referring too.
