Kathy's Pain
by Janet Owenby
copyright 10-29-2003

Age Rating: 13 to 127

Back and forth Kathy rocks,
a baby doll with silken locks.
Back and forth Kathy rocks,
a stuffed child with lacey socks.

Back and forth all day long,
she sings her mourning song.
Back and forth all day long,
her mind is weak, her pain is strong.

Back and forth her empty eyes fleet,
across each new visitor's feet.
Back and forth with no words to greet,
the many doctors she will meet.

Back and forth Kathy rocks,
her lost child's icon with silky locks.
Back and forth Kathy rocks,
with blank eyes on white nurses' socks.

Back and forth her lifeless body sways,
with her mind trapped in yesterdays.
Back and forth her lifeless body sways,
while on her lap, a plastic memory lays.

Authors note; This poem was written for a fictional serial I am working on about a mother whose only child is murdered
and she ends up in a mental institute unable to cope with her pain, the story carries you through her pain and sorrow to her final search for the man who murdered her daughter. The serial will not be posted on pnp because it is not meant for general audiences, but if adults are interesting in reading when it is completed you can e-mail me and I will send it to you.

My heart sighs for her, sadly. You caught my attention. Ominous, I hold my children tightly.
Excellent and so terribly sad.

Perfect, my rate;)

Came back to rate.
I can see her sitting there, staring at the doctors feet, holding the doll, thinking it is her daughter.

Completely haunting poem.
Great job.

Janet,
this poem is past the point of being sad. Haunting write.
Nancy
