Once I knew not friendship,
not warmth, or love, or care,
once I walked the empty streets
with a cold and lonely stare.
Once I knew not friendship,
not how to laugh or smile,
once my tears flowed freely,
the world was cruel and vile.
Once I knew not friendship,
my heart was cold and blue,
once upon a time had passed
the day that I met you.
You came and dried my tears away,
you never asked me why.
You took my hand and touched my heart,
and taught me how to fly.
You showed me joy and happiness,
you took away my pain,
you were a needed rainbow
after a lasting rain.
You showed me worlds I’ve never seen
with great and wondrous things.
Took me on magic carpet rides,
and gave my heart its wings.
You showed me what true friendship was,
you taught me how to care,
how to live and love and laugh
and run and play and dare.
There’s no way I can repay you,
though I’ve tried many times before,
you are my bestest friend for life,
what else could I ask for?
So thanks for being there for me,
for helping me to grow,
and if you ever read this poem,
it’s just to let you know.
