The Northern Lights

by Toni Sweeney (Age: 25)
copyright 11-18-2003

Age Rating: 1 +

They float around
throughout the night
up so high
in the darkened sky

Many colors, they may be
sometimes red and yellow
but mostly green
sometimes even all three

On these clear Alaskan nights
you can see them,
doing their dance
On this long Alaskan night

They not only dance
but they flow
they flow like a river
jagged and long

For they light up the night sky
for it is what we call the northern lights (Aurora Borealis).

This was a very good poem describing the beautiful phenomenon of the Northern Lights. It sounds like a truly awe-inspiring sight! it must be a blessing to be able to see it in person.

Good work with this one!

I really liked this poem! Going to Alaska is on my list of things to do before I die, I have always wanted to see the northern lights and make love beneath them. I have had dreams about it. Thank You for reminding me of that dream when I read your poem! Great description too!

I live in Tyumen region, Russia. We have Northern Lights in North part of our region.
But my town Tyumen is on south part of region, and I have never seen such wonderful miracle!
I see Northern Lights in your poem. Thanks!
Irina.
