Walking down the sidewalk of my childhood
Memories flood as a swollen river leaves its banks.
Holding your hand silently Feeling your age
Checking herself in the mirror
A young girl parades onto her stage dressed like a movie queen
Applause fills the room.
Shaping her like the mold to clay.
Your head lay gently resting on the sofa
The aroma of eggs and bacon lingering in the air
Holding your shaking hand Wishing your years to go away
To wash away the wrinkles, the age, the grey
To bring you back to me.
She slides booties on her feet, the kitchen floor as her rink
Bowing graciously to her audience
Always the center of their attention.
As I hold your hand remembering what you mean to me
Yearning for the day when your youth danced in your eyes
I will never forget the sidewalk you paved out of love for me
As I sit beside you holding your fragile hand
Memories of days past fill the unchanged air
