Dedicated to Janet Owens.
She reworked my poem and came up with something new but it is marvelous.
-------------------------------------------------------
Her love rebuilt his heart.
That had been shattered and ripped apart.
Her fingers caressed desolate spaces
and scattered pieces fell in proper places.
Her harmonious laughter brightened his day.
and what she meant to him, words could never say.
Dejected . . .cast away!
Her once faithful heart had wandered astray.
Her name unwritten on his future stars,
left his despondent heart covered in scars.
Forced to watch all his crumbled dreams scatter,
while his heart was devoured on love’s platter.
Mended . . .erected!
Yet, again his heart would be rejected.
A spineless creature would be left to crawl,
when his frail heart suffered another fall.
Defeated man traveled his life alone,
carrying his burden of lost love. . . come and gone.
Many times he tried,
to forget those deceptive eyes that lied,
His best efforts were futile and vain,
and torturous memories plagued his brain.
His heart was imprisoned behind barred doors,
drowning in bitter tears without hope’s oars.
His core was growing weak,
until he heard his guardian angel speak.
His famished heart feasted on swallowed pain,
till scorn washed over him like acid rain.
Her voice reprimanded him from above,
and taught him a precious lesson on love.
Such a gullible fool!
Only flexible spines survive love's rule.
The backbone of love can be built anew,
but each heart must contribute a bone, or two.
Now, rid your inner self of pain and hate,
and seek the one who's willing to donate.
Let there be no regrets!
Don’t walk through life dragging safety nets.
Spread your cowardly wings across Heaven's sky.
Don’t fear the fall, or you will never fly.
Tear down cement blocks from your castle walls.
One moment of love is worth a million falls.
