"The Fisherman"
by Kay Lee Kelly
copyright 12-05-2003

Age Rating: 1 to 127

"The Fisherman"

Photograph found in a book,
faded, dark and gray.
A picture of my father
taken on a day in May.

Thick black curly hair, brushed
back from his face.
Laughing eyes of Irish blue,
reflecting style, and grace.

Leaning on a wooden boat,
stringer in his hand,
Fishing in the trout stream,
called the Meadowland.

His absolute love of living,
shows forth very clear.
Doubt or apprehension
not apparent here.

Living in the moment,
unaware what time will bring.
Trusting all the rest of life
will be like this day in spring.

Precious tribute to a loved one who had discovered resolving to do something is not the same as doing it, and he did it.....

Such a wonderful, heartfelt tribute to your father. How I have missed your incredibly crafted, poignant, moving poems, Kay Lee. Why indeed, can we not keep that look of joy and wonderment on our faces? Why must so many of us sink to the depths of despair as we grow old? If only I had that secret of happiness, I would share it with the World.

Warm Christmas Hugs!
Lyle

I have missed reading your work, glad to see you posting again. Wonderful poem as usual Kay Lee. Your imagery is great, I can see the old photo through your words. I can see him leaning on the boat without a care in the world.
