December
by Moses Hochstetler (Age: 59)
copyright 12-05-2003

Age Rating: 10 to 127

What shall we say of December?
She hardly is lazy or slack -
She's gone too quick to remember,
And all to soon hurries on back.

The end of the year is no picnic,
The start of a new one is sad;
Time is no friend of the cynic,
And winters do not make me glad.

Calendars come by the dozen,
Years fade away by the score;
Summers and winters go buzzin'
And I can't keep up anymore.

Hello Moses,
I really enjoyed this poem. You've captured the cycle of time, and how we get caught in it's whirlwind. Tracking time with a calendar and the seasons...good comparison.

The rhythm was good....a nice, fluid read.
More, more, more!! Joan

"The start of a new one is sad" is my favorite line. For me, there is very fresh thought in it. Usually we hear that the start of a new year is merry and filled by fantasies. In real the start of a new one is sad, I agree with Moses.

Having been born in December, this poem speaks very well of her and of life in general, Moses.

There's certainly a chill in the air! And I'm stuck shoveling snow...more blizzards on the way Moses! Nice description of Old Man Winter!

A wonderful metaphor

True, but at least you can sock people with snowballs! I kinda like winter, it makes everything seem so much more peaceful. It's like the world is covered in this angelic blanket. (I know, I'm naiive, but complaining about it definitely does not make it go away! ^-^) lol, Excellent write, Moses!

This is very true, time is flying by and I can't keep up either. Seems like yesterday was the first day of Spring. Great little poem Moses as always.
