Parental Responsibilities

I just got this email:

dear bob,
my mom won't pay the dues.I really want to stay.

(name with-held)

This is going to anger some people as well it should. A few eyes need to be opened. I'm known to be blunt... but truthful. My name is bob (Betts). I own/operate and program this site.

First if you are a parent of a PnP Jr Member you quite likely don't know my name. That is to be expected, since I had nothing whatsoever to do with the creation of your child. As a matter of fact, none of the writers here at PnP are likely to have added any contribution to that event.

However if you look here, you will discover that many of them have a very large heart and might well support your child's efforts even if you refuse to.

I am disabled, have zero income at the moment, but I will support your child's efforts if they cannot get help in any other way. If they will make the effort of entering 5 works (Stories and/or Poems), adopt and adult and still can't get help, I will pay their member dues! I happen to love kids.

I MUCH prefer to see the child's parents support their child's efforts. Why, because I want money for PnP? No, as you see, many of our members will support YOUR child. I like to see parents pay the minuscule dues ($5 for a 6-month membership) for their child because first it IS their repoonsibility. But even more it represents a small token of their love. It tells their child far more than any words ever could, "I love you and I support your efforts."

Ahhh but the web is free, you say, or should be. Look here., This is our hosting company... Do you see any free servers there? PnP is a HUGE site, 20,000 web pages. PnP requires a dedicated server, not a $5.95 or $20 special. They don't give us a free server computer. We pay, just like everyone else. Is there some "Santa" out there who supports us? Not really, we are supported by our members, by member dues.

Of course many say, "I just can't afford it." Can you honestly say that you cannot afford $5 every 6 months to keep your child at a VERY safe site and improve his/her writing and reading skills? $5... ?

Do you want to give your child a REAL Christmas gift? One that will give them hours of pleasure whiile they learn to read and write better? How about a gift subscription to Prose-n-Poetry.com?

Show them you care !

I am VERY happy with a handful of parents of PnP Jr. Members who HAVE supported their child's efforts... but quite disappointed with the majority who don't...

bob

oh, forget it, I clicked on the look here link and got my answer.
But this was very good to know for future reference if my parents refuse to pay.

I'm going to make my parents read this!
Very true and correct, but do we mail you the money, send a check....?????

My mom helps pay my dues, so I think the other parents who can, should, too. If a child can't rely on their parents for such small things, who can they depend on for much else? No offense, but I think it's wrong not to do that small favor for your child.
