Human Bondage

Usury....
Unnecessary evil,
Cast iron ball
On contemptible debt,
Unbearable weight of greed
Suffocating the masses;
Shekels of shame
Raping the proletariat.
Usury....
Straight-jacket of
Peasant slavery,
Transfer of wealth
From those who have not
To those who have,
Shackles of medieval serfdom
Fettering the commoners.
Usury....
Fat-press of the upper class
Squeezing the sleep
Out of the working man:
The sweat of his labor,
Shelter of his family,
Food for his children,
The hope of his heirs.
Usury....
The blood of the poor
Sucked up by the greed
Of the money-changers,
The future of the many
Hoarded by the few
Flesh-peddling task-masters
Of human bondage.

Wow Moses,
This gets the heart puunding! Very intense and well written.
One spelling question: 1st stanza, 7th. line...did you mean "shackles"? (shekels)
One other comment. I love the way you start each stanza with Usury: I think using ellipsis after the word would give more emphasis to the theme.
Ex; Usury...
Unnecessary evil, etc.
Just a thought. This is a riviting, thought provoking poem. Really hits hard. Joan
