CHAB radio awarded me 4 tickets for a Puppy Love contest because they liked my story best although I didn’t mention any Paul Anka songs. It went something like this;
when I was in grade 3, I had to share a double desk with Ernie, he was an only child and I was one of 6. I got to go to his house for milk and cookies once
in a while, which was very nice because it was so peaceful there. I got to help him pick out and name his first dog, Rex. When we were in grade 7, he phoned and asked me to go to the show in the evening; this would be my very first date. I wasn't allowed to go to evening shows but Mom and Dad decided that since it was Ernie and, if my big sister went and sat behind us, that it would be okay. The movie was "Abbott and Costello meet Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde". After watching it for a while, Ernie said "this is sure scary, I think we should go sit with your sister". It was years before someone pointed out to me that he probably just wanted to sit with "an older woman" and she was much more attractive than I was at the time.
When I was in Grade XII, I asked Ernie to take me to my High School Graduation Dance; when he showed up he was proudly wearing “A White Sport Coat and a Pink Carnation” (because of a Marty Robbins song that was very popular at the time).
