A Flower
by Doreen Reynolds
copyright 05-23-2005

Age Rating: 13 to 127

I wish I was a flower
I'd blossom and I'd die
no-one would question that
I wish I was a bird
I'd get eaten by a cat
And what do you know
No-one would question that
But, as I am a person
And living all alone
I struggle on until the day
They put me in a home.
I don't want to be a fox
Torn to pieces by the hounds
But, when I'm dead I'm in a box
burned or buried in the ground.
When you are an animal
you just get put to sleep
When you are a person
Your pains you have to keep.
But, ar'nt we all just animals
We all feel pain and die
I wish I were a flower
And never knew the reason why.

I guess we could be a bird, cat or flower, but wouldn't life be boring?

I guess it's part of the human condition or from "The Fall" that we have to endure pain and be conscious of it. But perhaps that same consciousness can enpower us to interpret our lives differently. I feel the anguish here and relate to it well.
