Laying Blame
by Janet Owenby
copyright 01-02-2004

Age Rating: 7 to 127

Street is filled with boozers and thugs,
blowing each other away.
We blame it on Satan and drugs,
and evil games children play.

Hard rock , television, and rap
give us something else to blame.
Excuses are just a load of crap,
and a shelter for our shame.

Kids plug in negative outlets,
to avoid their inner pain.
More outcasts that our world forgets,
and proclaims to be insane.

When will we acknowledge this blame
and admit we played a role?
Place guilt upon our own name,
and save our children's soul.

Great rythm, good rhymes, and amazing message. Makes for a truly wonderful poem in my book! Glad you posted it and sorry it took so long for me to get here to read it. :-)

Excellent message here Janet. Everyone these days will not accept resposibility for their actions. There are consequences we all must face for our behavior. People shrug it off, like you so aptly point out, and blame someone else..."The Devil made me do it." Nice reminder you gave us all.
Warm regards,
Gregory

Right on, Janet! THis is a great poem and powerful social commentary on our responsibility for the attitudes of youth.

Warm Regards,
Lyle

If you read this and are expecting great technique, imagery and flow, you will be sorely disappointed. It is all about the power in the message and nothing more.
