Over the years, for a number of reasons, a few people have thought that would be a great idea. Most don't know a computer from a car... or that PnP and bob are like a peanut butter sandwich. Take out the peanut butter and what do you have? Leave out the bread and what do you have?
Q: It can't be that hard, can it?
A: PnP at the moment has about 20,000 pages. It has seen 1/2 million visitors and has server well over 6,000,000 web pages. It sees about 1000 visitors each day. It occupies about 2 gigabites. That requires a dedicated server.
Q: big deal, anyone can get a server, so what?
A: Hmmm... I said dedicated... Pnp is a programmed site written in PHP. It was original written for a linux server. A rewrite would be required if it were moved to a windows server. It also uses a number of linux-specific programs. Many functions would be lost if moved.
Linux is a different system. Whoever runs PnP has to maintain 2 computers, his own and a remote computer which is the actual server. He has to be able to solve problems such a recent one, "error mySQL: too many connections" which totally locked the site to all visitors.
It has taken me years to gain the needed knowledge. Another might also be able to, in years. Meanwhile the site would see numerous outages.
Q: big deal, We'll hire someone, OK?
I work free. 14 or so hrs a day. Know any professionals System Administrator who offers free services?
Q: big deal, We'll find someone, OK?
Onward... How about a PHP programmer? There are countless ways to write a program to accomplish a task. You'd need one who can decipher my particular style and also be able to see all the interrelationships between the programs. Pnp is an intricate labyrinth. Any change has far reaching, and sometimes rather obtuse effects on other areas. Know a free PHP programmer who is fluent in different programming styles and is willing to give 14 hrs a day free?
Q: big deal, We'll find someone, OK?
What about personal attacks? Despite the fact I've devoted my life to PnP, many have chosen to attack me on a personal level. I can assure you that no matter who has PnP, personal attacks will be mounted. The web is a very hostile place and there is always one... Know someone who will continue despite being attacked, someone with sufficient stubbornness and tenacity?
Q: Hey, We WILL bring you down, big man, Got it?
A: And I and those who support me will fight you every inch of the way.

That's the reason we keep you...lol I'm just kidding. We all love you. I know I couldn't do a lot of the things PnP has and what you do for us. I have figured out a few ways to do things, but it sometimes ends up in rebooting the computer, or tossing the mouse to the opposite wall. For the people that think they can do this, they need to get through all of the other people on this site. Talk to you later.

As a newcommer to this great site I am still finding my way.
I have been stunned by the people here. While I may not be in agreement with some comments, as the man said, (paraphrasing).
I will defend the right for them to be said.
I have found nothing to disagree with in your articles, in fact they have been most helpful.
Please keep up the good work.
Thank you, Brian
Likw we'd do that!
Nervous Chuckle, Pulls at the neck of her turtleneck.
Hold on a sec.
"Ppsstt, Reggie, throw Plan A out. Get Plan B."
Just kidding!
We're not a p-n-p without Mr.Betts!
You think we're all Benedicts Arnolds, don't you?
Well, I've got news for you.
We aren't.
That's news,isn't it?
Lol!Go bob!Like the others have said, im with you, know one could replace you and besides you own this site and if someone else took over i would go and take my works with me!
like the way you say it all!
LOL! God Bless Bob, this one is so right!!! I do PHP, butBARELY any, and I've been doing web stuff for well over three years (I've made numerous sites) but that was just mastering HTML. Now I'm learning DHTML and PHP on my own. I'm too afraid to touch CGI and MySQL until I take classes on it. Whoever tried to decipher the labrynth that this site is would find themselves in a very strong spiders web of script. I find it so funny, because I know just how true it is!
