Man’s Final Battle (Sestina)
by Catherine Wilson (Age: 32)
copyright 01-10-2004

Age Rating: 10 to 127

“I stand before you as a man.
The time has come. We must destroy
the damned race known as vampires
for they're spawned from depths of hell.
I say that we declare a war
before they kill us for our blood.”

“So before they drink your blood,
fight with me for you’re a man.
Let us all march on to war
before all humans they destroy.
Send them back again to hell
and free our world of vampires.”

“I stand before you, vampires.
The time has come to feast on blood.
Let’s turn this land into a hell,
and rid it of the vile man.
For it’s we they will destroy
if we don't declare this war.”

“I tell you we must fight this war.
They look to wipe out Vampires
and our race they will destroy.
Stand with me to shed their blood
before an army formed by man
sends us back to rot in hell.”

So the land became a hell
as the races fought their war
and the Army formed by man
was slaughtered by the vampires.
It is true they shed man’s blood
and all life they did destroy.

Carelessly when you destroy
life and make the world a hell
you find that there is no more blood
left from when you waged a war.
The irony is vampires
lived because they fed on man.

Surely man cannot destroy
vampires that come from hell.
All war does is spill man’s blood.

Wow... this is a very thought provoking poem. Ah, the irony, Vampyres kill men only in turn to kill themselves. What strange things war can do to the races. Wonderful job Catherine! By the way, I love the way this poem was set up... man addressing his men, vampyre addressing his kind, and the aftermath. Awesome!
