Abandoning the Past
by Debra Rose (Age: 21)
copyright 12-30-2003

Age Rating: 13 to 127

Haunting and gregarious,
It lurks in every corner,
This chthonic deep desire,
To inebriate my essence,
In the darkness of forever,
And destroy my complex
Thought process.

A feeling of oneness,
Alone, complete in this
Hollow empty nothing,
Devoid of reason or doubt,
Screaming in a crowded room
But everyone's wearing ear muffs,
And the musics up too loud
To distinguish real from fake,
And I only want to see you
Stripped of all this
Influence placed upon you
And tear down your idiotic
Selfless ambitions.

Do you see me on the corner
Screaming sirens on the cop cars,
Passing by in hazes of ephemeral
Clouds of red and blue.
Can you see me on the pillows,
Lying sated and laconic
From the nostrum that is weed,
With the acid hazy stare.
Can you hear the echoes in me
When you try to talk straight to me,
But I wish you would talk with me,
But emptiness abounds.

Alone inside this shadow,
I'm a corpse
That's rotting slowly.
Screaming echoes in my head,
Can you hear me falling softly,
As I reach just up to grab you,
Fading into dark embrace.
Abandoned and alone,
They all are fading away,
But I don't think I can care
If not a one of them will stay.
Because alone is much more peaceful
And it's easier to let go,
The past is just is a monster,
That will rape the sobbing soul.

Abandoning the past is sometimes easier said than done..these lines really got to me;
'Because alone is much more peaceful
And it's easier to let go,
The past is just is a monster,
That will rape the sobbing soul.'

What is chthonic?
You obviously start with drink and go on to drugs.
What shadow is it drink and drugs? Very deep and disturbing.

Incredible sensory descriptions, images and metaphors. I really felt the emotion here. This one's like a poetry injection of intense stimuli to the brain. Loved it!

Warm Regards,
Lyle
