What Love’s About - A Victorian Sonnet
by Lyle Berry (Age: 61)
copyright 01-02-2004

Age Rating: 18 to 127

  What Love’s About - A Victorian Sonnet

What Love’s about is not some selfish whim;
nor is Love purely biological -
though often totally illogical.
When hormones saturate the blood and swim,
thought processes instinctually dim.
What Love’s about (at first) seems magical,
(until it’s ended) then Love’s “tragical.”
I think that Love might be the source of Sin,
when object d’ affection supplants God,
possesses us down deep - down to our core -
we live and breathe to have and hold that bod,
and separation is a salted sore.
We’re bound for Hell, where untrue Lovers trod,
when Love corrupts and Lovers become whores.

Perfection..... and a wonder. do any ever meet
the bar?

Lyle, I've lived this kind of love and it's more of an addiction than anything else I've ever tried. Your poem whallops one upside the head with stark reality.
Nancy
