The Rake Inside
by Lyle Berry (Age: 61)
copyright 08-25-2001

Age Rating: 18 to 127

I looked inside my soul and found The Rake,
just biding time and lusting hot and mad,
veiled needs repressed and seething awfully bad -
exhorting me to make a crucial break.
The consequences? - Let the Devil take -
or else remain alone, heartsick and sad.
Escape, in fact, he spurs shall make us glad -
With urgency - sweet Sanity’s at stake!

I understand his wisdom and his raves -
there’s only one way out for him and me.
Ergo, he must come forth and take control –
Lest self-denial become communal graves.
So I must find a way to set him free;
or we won’t reach our synergistic whole.

The rake... hmm.. I better keep my comments to myself lest I be judged other than a "lady". *grin* Thanks for sharing.

Hmm...not sure how to comment on this poem. My idea of The Rake and the symbolism with this is different, I believe, from what was intended in the poem. Have to give this more thought. :0)
