We all walk this path through life,
Drawn to the incredible desires of our sinful flesh.
Bountifully fed by the worlds we have created,
Quickly pointing at the next to pass the blame.
The pleasures of the eye pierce our heart causing a stumble,
Our ears can not help but drop on the gossip as our lips keep carrying hate along.
Continuing to swim through this disease of the murky middle
You can taste it, the creeping of it all…
Pride, Envy, Gluttony, Lust, Wrath, Greed and Sloth
…creating a stench only a mortal can love.

Each generation lets the boundries of moral character slip a little farther. We let our children succumb to pear presure. We allow them to do things that we were not allowed to do, trying to be the "cool" dad or mom. Are we really hurting them? Who has the answers? Who really knows the truth? Thanks, Anthony
This is really amazing! It just totally strips all the excuses of the world until there's nothing left but the truth!
"Quickly pointing at the next to pass the blame." <-- That's my favorite line. How true is that!? You hear kids all the time saying stuff like "he did it!" while grown ups follow their example in a more slyer manner so no one would actually see them point a finger! Awesom write!
This is deep and profound, Jack. It is a study in human nature, which, contrary to popular opinion, tends to deteriorate with each passing generation, as each, in its own turn, rolls back the boundaries of acceptance and tolerance to evil just a little (or a lot) more. Morals and ethics erode as greed and averice get a stronger stranglehold on society. Hopefully, a few individuals have the strength and fortitude to repent, and to resist this downward spiral. Great write.
Beautifully cynical. It makes you wonder what others would think of us from an outside point of view (one I prefer to take...should you think of yourself as different, as better, you force yourself to act it, therefore creating yourself above the vices and therefore untempted by them...if you know what I mean >.O;;; ) I love the point of view you take in your poems. Always so refreshing from what I read everywhere else.
And to what Nancy said...we may be able to change, but society as a whole is happy in their hypocritical righteousness, repenting everynight yet not worrying about the next day when they will commit the same sins. One person can change. Humanity cannot, and has not since it's barbaric stages back in the time Menoch and the slaughtering of the Adulterans (sp?). Great job.
As I will continue to do so, I see the world as “man's refuge in benevolence”, blind to the truths’ that haunt his soul, beyond doubt, terrified to meet “Death” as this confrontation may lead to some moral distaste. But this is only a lack of understanding in the defiance of man, turning away time and time again from our Champion, who in turn has defeated such demons. Failure to continue to see this only deters our souls growth, which was meant to blossom not drown in the "Success" of "Man".
